AUTHORSHIP AND CONTRIBUTORSHIP

Authorship and Contributorship Policy

Jurnal Ulumul Qur'an: Jurnal Kajian Ilmu Al-Qur'an dan Tafsir STIU Darul Qur'an

Authorship in Jurnal Ulumul Qur'an: Jurnal Kajian Ilmu Al-Qur’an dan Tafsir is given only to individuals who have made a substantial scholarly contribution to the manuscript. Authorship represents both academic credit and responsibility for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and accountability of the published work.

1. Authorship Criteria

To qualify as an author, an individual must meet the following criteria:

  • Make a substantial contribution to the conception, design, data or source collection, analysis, interpretation, or other substantive scholarly aspects of the research;

  • Participate in drafting the manuscript or revising it critically for important intellectual content;

  • Read and approve the final version of the manuscript to be submitted and published; and

  • Agree to be accountable for the integrity of the work and to respond appropriately to questions concerning the accuracy, originality, research ethics, or scholarly content of the article.

Individuals who do not meet these criteria should not be listed as authors. Substantial scholarly contributions may include developing the research idea, designing the study, collecting or analyzing primary and secondary sources, conducting fieldwork or manuscript research, interpreting Qur’anic or tafsir materials, conducting philological or textual analysis, preparing scholarly translations or transliterations, developing the theoretical or methodological framework, writing substantial parts of the manuscript, or critically revising the manuscript for important intellectual content.

2. Author Contributions

Each listed author must have a clearly identifiable contribution to the manuscript. For multi-author manuscripts, the journal may require an author contribution statement specifying the role of each author. Author contributions may include, where applicable:

  • Conceptualization;

  • Research design and methodology;

  • Data, manuscript, archival, or source collection;

  • Fieldwork;

  • Formal or textual analysis;

  • Interpretation of Qur’anic, tafsir, historical, or manuscript materials;

  • Translation and transliteration;

  • Writing the original draft;

  • Critical review and revision;

  • Research supervision;

  • Project administration; and

  • Other substantive scholarly contributions.

Administrative position, institutional authority, general supervision, funding acquisition alone, proofreading, technical assistance, or language editing alone does not automatically qualify a person for authorship. All authors must read and approve the final version of the manuscript before submission. By submitting the manuscript, the authors confirm that all listed authors have agreed to the submission and publication, all eligible authors have been included, all sources and contributions have been properly acknowledged, and no person has been included as an author without fulfilling the journal’s authorship criteria.

3. Responsibility and Accountability of Authors

All authors share responsibility for the scholarly integrity of the published article. Each author must be able to identify and explain their own contribution and should have reasonable confidence in the integrity of the contributions made by the other authors. Authors are responsible for ensuring that:

  • The manuscript is original and does not contain plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, or inappropriate manipulation of sources or data;

  • All quotations, translations, data, manuscripts, archival materials, and other sources are appropriately acknowledged;

  • The manuscript has not been published previously and is not simultaneously submitted to another journal;

  • Any required research ethics approval, informed consent, or institutional permission has been obtained;

  • Funding sources and potential conflicts of interest are disclosed accurately;

  • The authorship list and order accurately represent the individuals who contributed to the work;

  • Any substantive use of generative artificial intelligence or AI-assisted tools is disclosed in accordance with the journal’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Usage Policy; and

  • Any error discovered after publication is promptly communicated to the editorial office so that an appropriate correction, retraction, or other editorial action can be considered.

The corresponding author is responsible for communication with the journal during submission, peer review, revision, production, and post-publication matters. The corresponding author must ensure that the author list, author order, affiliations, funding information, conflict of interest statement, ethics statement, author contribution statement, and any disclosure concerning the use of generative AI are accurate and have been approved by all authors.

4. Contributorship and Acknowledgements

Individuals who contributed to the work but do not meet the authorship criteria may be acknowledged, with their permission, in the acknowledgement section. Such contributions may include proofreading, language editing, technical support, transcription, administrative assistance, archive or library access, field access, logistical assistance, or general supervision that does not constitute a substantive intellectual contribution. The acknowledgement section should not be used to imply endorsement of the article by individuals or institutions without their knowledge or consent.

5. Unacceptable Authorship Practices

Jurnal Ulumul Qur'an: Jurnal Kajian Ilmu Al-Qur’an dan Tafsir does not permit honorary authorship, gift authorship, coercive authorship, ghost authorship, or any other form of authorship manipulation. Individuals must not be listed as authors solely because of seniority, institutional position, personal relationship, financial support, administrative authority, or general supervision. Likewise, individuals who have made a substantial scholarly contribution sufficient to meet the authorship criteria must not be intentionally omitted from the author list. Suspected manipulation or dispute concerning authorship may result in editorial inquiry, rejection of the manuscript, suspension of the editorial process, correction of the published article, retraction, or other appropriate action.

6. Authorship Order and Changes

The order of authors should be agreed upon by all authors before submission and should appropriately reflect their respective contributions, according to the conventions agreed upon by the authors. Any request to add, remove, or rearrange authors after submission must be submitted in writing to the editorial office. The request must explain the reason for the change and include the written agreement of all authors, including any author being added or removed. Authorship changes after acceptance will only be considered in exceptional circumstances and must be approved by the editorial office before publication.

7. Artificial Intelligence and Authorship

Artificial intelligence tools, chatbots, large language models, or other automated systems cannot be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot assume responsibility or accountability for the published work. If generative AI or AI-assisted tools are used in a substantive manner during the preparation of a manuscript, authors must disclose their use in accordance with the journal’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Usage Policy. Human authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, citations, interpretations, and arguments contained in the manuscript.

8. Authorship Disputes and Contact

The journal expects authors to resolve authorship questions collaboratively before submission. If an authorship dispute arises during the editorial process, the journal may temporarily suspend processing of the manuscript until the matter has been resolved. Where appropriate, the journal may request written clarification from the authors or refer the matter to the relevant institution when the dispute cannot be resolved through editorial communication.
