AI USAGE POLICY

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Usage Policy

Ulumul Quran: Journal of Quran and Tafsir Studies upholds integrity and transparency in academic writing. The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools is permitted solely as a help for language editing, grammar checking, or reference management. Authors are barred from utilizing AI to generate substantial content, data, analysis, or conclusions that may undermine originality and academic accountability. Manuscripts that reveal excessive reliance on AI-generated content or fail to acknowledge its use may be rejected.

For Authors

Generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and similar platforms, lack the capacity to be held legally and morally accountable for a scholarly work. Authors retain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of their work. Therefore, AI is strictly prohibited from being listed as an author or co-author in any manuscript. Authors are required to explicitly and transparently disclose the use of AI technologies in the research, literature search, writing, or editing processes. Such disclosure must be formally stated within the Methodology section or the Acknowledgement section. Regardless of AI assistance, the authors retain full and ultimate responsibility for the entire substance of the manuscript, which includes data accuracy, argument validity, and textual originality.

For the Editorial Team

The use of AI by the editorial team is strictly limited to administrative support, formatting adjustments, and language editing assistance. As a form of transparency, the editorial board of Ulumul Qur'an openly declares the use of Trinka AI for proofreading purposes and Gemini AI to assist in drafting the narratives for journal policies and guidelines. The utilization of these technologies is conducted in a measured manner, strictly adhering to national scientific journal accreditation regulations and based on the mutual agreement of the editorial team. AI tools are strictly prohibited from replacing human scientific judgment in evaluating the scholarly quality of a manuscript. All final editorial decisions, whether accepting, requesting revisions, or rejecting a manuscript, are absolutely made independently by the handling editors based on human peer-review evaluations.

For Reviewers

Reviewers are assigned to provide a critical and objective assessment of scholarly manuscripts. Consequently, reviewers are prohibited from using generative AI tools to evaluate the substance of a manuscript or to construct peer-review reports. Furthermore, to preserve the fundamental confidentiality of unpublished manuscripts, reviewers are strictly forbidden from uploading, copying, or inputting any part or the entirety of an author's manuscript into any AI platform. Inputting original manuscript texts into AI systems constitutes a severe breach of confidentiality ethics and infringes upon the intellectual property rights of the authors.
